What is Roleplay?

Roleplay is a way to step outside of your real life self and express yourself by being who ever you wish to be.

How do I roleplay?

Spend a little time in the town and think of how you would like to see yourself fit into it.  Then when you are ready, follow very simple roleplay guidelines and interact with the community.  It helps to write yourself a small back story and put it in the Picks section of your second life profile.

What are the roleplay guidelines?

                                               [ How to Roleplay ]

    1.    When you type in nearby chat it is automatically assumed that you are speaking in character. To speak out of character ( OOC ) you use ((  )) around what you want to say.

    2.      You emote actions by using dashes or "/me". this is a matter of personal preference.
            Ex:
                /me smiles at you
                -smiles at you-

    3.      you can combine speaking and emotes
            EX:
/me sips my coffee before speaking "Hello everyone and welcome to Quinn's Haven"
-sips my coffee before speaking- Hello everyone and welcome to Quinn's Haven.

    4.      Always ask is OOC if you are unsure about a RP situation, and always ask permission before doing risky RP. Its just polite. At any point a person has the right to end a rp by using OOC.
            Ex:
Stopping RP- (( I am not ok with this. lets stop ))
Asking permission- (( are you ok if i break into your home and                             possible murder?))

    5.      Never let what happens during RP affect your relationships outside of RP. This is all for fun, do not take it personal.

                                            [ ROLEPLAY NO-NOs ]

God-modding in its simplest terms is controlling another player's character without their permission. By imposing your will on their character without their permission, you are gaining 'godlike' or 'divine' powers, hence the origin of the term.

Meta-gaming is The easiest of the three to define, though likely the hardest to avoid is meta-gaming. This term comes from the Greek word meta meaning 'about' or 'beyond'. Hence to meta-game would be playing with knowledge beyond the scope of the present game, plot, or scene. This knowledge can be gained various ways, either through historical research, threads that occur at a time later than the one that is currently being worked on, informational topics posted on the board itself, or chatting with other players about their characters and gaining knowledge about them, as well as other ways.

Power-playing is when a player manipulates their character's abilities, powers or skills so that their character always has an advantage in the situation. This could be as simple as always knowing the best spell, or having a black belt in every type of martial art known to man. Power-playing is most often confused with god-modding, and while the two are quite close, the difference between them is that god-modding is more controlling the other players character, while power playing is focused on your own character and manipulating the scene through them.

No teleporting during an active roleplay!

                                         [ Court proceedings ]

Any offense can be seen in court but depending on the star rating, the process may vary. for instance a one start rating may just be seen in front  of a judge and 2 witnesses, where as a four star rating would be seen by a full jury.

Just like real life you have a right to legal representation. you can bring in your own, if not one will be appointed to you. All Lawyers are sworn to protect the interests of their clients, so no worries about conflict of interest.

Opening statements will be given by both sides stating their argument ( guilty, or not guilty) then both sides will be given a fair chance to present their evidence, witnesses, and sides. After closing statements the jury has 1 hour to reach a verdict. once a verdict is reached the judge will hand down sentencing. all Verdicts and sentences are FINAL.

Note: If you fail to appear in court without contacting town hall to reschedule then your offense goes up one star rating and we issue a warrant for your arrest. At which point your hearing will be set to a date you can be available before you are offered the option to post bail. If you should hit a five star rating you are banned. ( We just assume you don't want to be apart of the RP. )
